Protector – Website Blocker
Privacy Policy
Protector – Website Blocker (“Protector”) is a free Chrome extension published by Dean Design & Software. It helps you block selected websites in Chrome without requiring an account.
Information processed locally
Protector saves your blocked-site selections, custom website domains, and protection settings in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It checks the current tab’s URL and the URLs of open tabs when necessary to identify websites selected for blocking and to enforce blocking. When a website is blocked, Protector can display the affected URL on its local blocked page.
Protector uses this information only to provide its website-blocking features. It does not create or upload a browsing-history log.
Information sent to us
The extension does not send your visited URLs, browsing history, blocked-site selections, custom domains, or protection settings to Dean Design & Software or an external server. Protector does not require registration and does not include analytics or advertising trackers.
If you voluntarily email us for support, we receive the information you choose to include in that email and use it to respond to you.
Chrome permissions
- storage: Saves selected websites, custom domains, and protection settings locally in Chrome.
- declarativeNetRequest: Creates and updates Chrome's blocking rules for websites you choose to block.
- Host access (
<all_urls>): Allows you to block any website, identify the current site, and enforce blocking on already-open tabs.
Sharing and selling information
Protector does not sell your personal information or share extension-processed browsing data with third parties. The extension does not use user data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness assessment, or lending.
Retention and your choices
Your site selections and settings remain in Chrome's local extension storage until you change or reset them, clear the extension's data, or uninstall Protector. You can allow or block individual sites, pause protection, remove custom sites, or use Reset Protector to clear selections and custom entries.
Children and parental use
Protector does not request a child's name, age, account, or other identifying information. It is a browser-level website blocker, not a tamper-proof parental-control system. A person who can disable or uninstall Chrome extensions may also be able to disable Protector.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if Protector's features or data practices change. We will update the effective date above when we do.
